I don't like practicing just one thing at a time, so I have multiple sources I'm learning from. My library didn't have any banjo books, but through the interloan system I was able to get some of the commonly recommended ones from other libraries in my county. Go on your local library website and see if you have a library interloan system. I've only been playing 2 weeks so I don't really know anything, but I have a tip. He's got a ton of free tabs and videos, modern and classics. Jamming is a great way to learn to play with others. My teach also holds a beginner jam every month. There is a Bluegrass "fan" group in my area and monthly they gather to jam. I supplement the teaching, online with a monthly jam. I was going to Bluegrass Festivals and asking around and met someone who taught in my area. Plus the forums are great and people are really helpful.Īfter that, and to this day I found a teacher. With ever lesson there's tabs and tefs to download. He's got tons of lessons and breaks them up by beginner, intermediate and advanced. After that I actually subscribed to one of the teachers online. Not that you can't switch, but stick with one until you can learn the banjo neck. I think you need to pick a style Scruggs vs Frailing (strumming). Three years ago I started and pretty much started looking / watching youtube videos.
